This directory enables you to search by suburb, postcode, site name, and phone number for ease of access we recommend searching by suburb and postcode. You can click on the “Click here to Google search” option and it will redirect and initiate a search on google for the NSP you’re looking for.

Please note that some automatic dispensing units in the Northern Territory (Tennant Creek, Katherine, Alice Springs, Humpty Doo) require tokens for the operation which can only be obtained from NTAHC (Northern Territory Aids and Hepatitis Council) offices in Darwin and Palmerston. They do not accept coins, cash or other methods of payment. The tokens are free, are there are replacement tokens contained within each fitpack distributed from the machines.

It is important to note that NTAHC (Northern Territory Aids and Hepatitis Council) cover over 95% of the distribution in the NT. NTAHC is the only primary NSP provider operating within the NT. Primary NSPs provide a wider range of injecting equipment (such as filters, barrels, sterile water, tips, swabs and sharps containers) in addition to providing free take-home Naloxone (anti-overdose medication for opiate drugs) such as heroin, oxycodone, Vicodin, codeine, morphine, methadone, fentanyl and others. Where possible, we recommend prioritising the use of primary NSP sites.

Note:  Naloxone only works with opiate drugs, it is ineffective on methamphetamines ( e.g. ‘ice’) and other drugs.

They also provide health information and education services, make referrals and provide services for the appropriate disposal of used injecting equipment. Secondary NSPs operating within the NT mostly distribute 1ml and 3ml fitpacks and may not always have services available for appropriate disposal of used equipment, or stock all the necessary equipment you may require. Some Needle and Syringe dispensing units in the NT require tokens to operate which can be obtained from NTAHC in Darwin and Palmerston.
